Living in Bill's Basement
Well Marla and I always used to joke that we would live in Bill's basement when he bought a house. Well that joke has become a reality, although the work situation is a little different, we always said we would just work at the gas station for beer money. So I am now moved into Bill's basement downstate and have to say it's pretty badass.
The night before I left for downstate, I shit you not, it was snowing in Houghton. The next day I drove downstate and had the luck of having my tire blow out a few miles from munising, mi. That was the 3rd flat tire I have had in 3 months, the tire that blew was only a month and a half old. I didn't have a spare because of it, and it was sunday so nothing was open. I got towed into munising and I remember my buddy saying they were driving down there that day. So I called him and asked if I could stay the night. They said it was cool, what I didn't realize is that they were driving back to houghton that night, so I ended up saying the night at their parents house. Luckily enough their parents were really nice to me and let Fuse stay as well. I ended up hanging out with their sister whom I met the night before and hanging out with a bunch of munising locals playing cards. That night I ended up going back to their house, which is a really beautiful hand crafted house (he is a carpenter). I got to take a sauna in the nicest sauna I have ever seen. Then ended up getting a haircut from their sister (she's a stylist) for fixing her computer. Next day I got up, got my tire fixed, and drove downstate. I want to thank Norm, Kerry, Dave and Jess for taking care of me and doing me a huge favor.
So now I am downstate, and have to say Bill picked out an awesome house. Click here to see the virtual video tour I made for those that would like to see the house but can't make it down here. Bill and I have been really busy working on the house. I tore up all the carpet & tile in the basement and we painted it. We've been doing a bunch of stuff to try and get the house settled into. Since I have been down here it seems we have visitors every weekend. The first weekend I was down here we were suppose to go to Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF) but didn't end up going because it was raining and we were getting bill moved over here from his apartment. Also a lot of people who were suppose to come down didn't end up coming, but Chad stopped by and hung out for a night. Then Fresh and I ended up watching Bury Your Dead (w/ Suicide Silence and Stick to your guns) memorial day. Then the next weekend Jason and Jan ended up coming down to hang out. We ended up going biking and Jason talked me into going to the Skinny Puppy concert. I listen to industrial music, but am not huge into it, so I was debating if I should go or not. Well it ended up being an awesome concert. Skinny Puppy had an awesome show, put on a good theatrics, and it was the first concert I have ever been to where I danced and moshed. Also a thanks to Jason (45) for lending me his bike for the summer, and Jan for making the house warming strawberry pie.
We have more visitors even showing up this weekend. Bills parents are down here camping so we have been hanging out with them. Then Chooch is flying in today to hang out for the weekend and more people are coming tomorrow to come hang out. Then next weekend is my brother's graduation. So I have been really busy. I have to say downstate it awesome, there is so much stuff to do down here opposed to houghton. Bill bought a kayak and is getting a canoe, the lake is 2 houses down from us and bike trails about about a mile away so I plan to do lots of that stuff this summer. The weather has been awesome too.
I have also been cranking on my google summer of code project. I haven't started writing any code yet because I have been working on design documents for it, and we just got the internet last week so I have been playing catch up. Since the project is open source it will be available for anyone to download/use at the end of this summer. I have to say it's an awesome job because my office consist of sitting on Bill's deck with a laptop.
A side note, I just found out my Great Grandma passed away last night. She was about 90 years old. Rest in peace grandma, may the Olivastri legacy live on.
